Poker Players’ Alliance Optimistic
After the National Poker week sponsored by the Poker Players’ Alliance, they feel that the momentum has shifted in the favor of poker on Capitol Hill. During the second to last week in July, the PPA is it is informally known flew in to Washington D.C. and lobbied for the explicit legalization and regulation of poker online. PPA director John Pappas said of one lobbyist, “He felt that after the fly-in, the interest in the issue, as well as the understanding of the issue, had moved in the right direction. That’s what we accomplished on this trip.” And that could be good news when Congress reconvenes in September for their Fall session. During their campaign the held a charity online poker event for the United Service Organizations (USO) and held a charity game for the Walter Reed (Veterans’) Memorial Hospital. A total of 180 people attended, several of them members of Congress. The whole point was for the PPA to show its support for the legislation introduced by Representative Barney Frank (D-MA), which seeks to regulate and legalize the several-billion dollar industry in the USA. After the event held on the Hill by the PPA, they announced that 51 more congressmen and women had joined the fight and signed on to the bill in support of Frank’s legislation. As always we’ll keep you updated as the goings-on continue to develop.
