Pocket Pair Percentages

Poker players have to continually make decisions on how to play their poker hands. It can even be difficult to decide whether or not to play a pocket pair.

Below are the percentage ratios of how often a pocket pair will win against another if the round goes to showdown at the casino:

* Higher pocket pair vs. small pair (QQ vs. &&): 80 vs. 20 percent that big pair will hold up to win at showdown.

* Pocket pair vs. two over-cards (99 vs. JK): This is a classic “coin flip” where the pocket pair hold a small edge at 55 vs. 45 percentage at showdown.

* Pocket pair vs. two small cards (JJ vs. 78): The pocket pair is the favorite at 80 vs. 20 percent to win at showdown. There is a wide variance for the smaller cards though depending on whether they are suited or if the over cards interfere with the small ones completing to a straight.

* Pocket pair vs. one over-card and one small card (10 10 vs. Q 8): The pocket pair has a 70 vs. 30 percent chance for winning at showdown.

* Pocket pair vs. same card with an over-card: (9-9 vs. 9-J): The pocket pair has a 65 vs. 35 percentage advantage to win.

* Pocket pair vs. same card with a small card (9-9 vs. 9-8): The pocket pair has a much better chance to win at 85 vs. 15 percent.
