Fantastic Ski Conditions across Europe

There’s been just about two metres of snow in the last week. The snowfall was so prolonged that skiing lifts have been shut, the funicular has been stopping at Chamonix’s train station and not going up to Le Tour. Several roads have been shut past our Chamonix chalet and weather announcements issued.

Compare this to a couple of winters past, when we experienced the unusually hot February weather conditions, rocks showing on pistes, and admonitions that global warming would mean the death of skiing in France. Indeed the report from winter 2007 admonished that global warming would make ski holidays too expensive for the majority of skiers, with one 3rd of resorts going bust and the thawing of alpine glaciers. Climatologists say that it’s inconceivable to ascribe the seasonal deviations in the snow to the effects of global warming.

So we could be experiencing the longest recession in 30 yrs, and the Sterling has headed to more levels against the Euro, but the skiing is first-class, and the latest bookings prove that boarders are enthusiastic to take of advantage of the excellent snow conditions. Its undoubtedly the greatest in ten winters, and lots of skiers are saying that it is the nicest ski snowboarding conditions in 10 winter seasons.

Nonetheless remember that big dumps like these mean raised risks of avalanche.
